Inheritance of Resistance to Downy Mildew (Pseudoperonospora cubensis) in Cucumis melo

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to elucidate the mode of inheritance of downy mildew(Pseudoperonospora cubensis) in six-parents half-diallel cross set under natural infection conditions. The reaction of all accessions to downy mildew was evaluated on the basis of percent infected leaf area. All parental lines and F, progenies showed different response. Almost all of the F©ûs showed moderate-resistance, and a little skewed to susceptible parent. The resistance of melon to downy mildew appeared to be expressed by additive gene effects almost without dominant effects. Heritability was very high in both narrow sense and broad sense. GCA effect was very highly significant, but that of SCA was not. The line #92398 was the best for developing resistant varieties. Euncheon has mild resistance, but others were very susceptible.
